ABOUT US
ARTISTMARY DUDLEY FRANKLIN
For as long as I can recall, I have been intrigued by color and design, and interested in putting those elements together to create vibrant works of art. I was lucky enough to inherit my talent. My family tree is awash with artistic folks. My father was a skilled artist and very creative. Both my maternal grandmother and her daughter, my aunt, could create fabulous realistic drawings. I received my formal art education at Howard University under the tutelage of Lois Mailou Jones.
As I travel around our country and around the world, I am truly in awe of the works of art that I have seen and of the people who created them. My artistic creations spring from what I can see and what I can imagine. Although, bold, primary colors define my work; I enjoy mixing color to achieve a certain mood in my work.
Oils and acrylics are my primary medium, and I paint in various genres. I have found that I am happiest when I am not limited to landscapes or pure abstracts.
I hope everyone who sees my paintings decides she simply cannot live without a Franklin in his or her collection!
